Abstract
This study aimed to make a cross-sectional analysis of the level of acceptance of Telerehabilitation on the demographic factors among physical therapy practitioners during the COVID-19 pandemic. To determine the level of acceptance, the study utilized the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) by Paul Pasco. However, there is an underutilization and slow uptake of telerehabilitation and for most studies the service neglects the point of view of the physical therapists concerning the level of acceptance in telerehabilitation uptake. A total of 80 registered physical therapists participated in the study.
This study utilized licensed physical therapist practitioners in rehabilitation facilities as well as home health physical therapists in Cebu, Philippines. The data gathered for the demographic factors revealed that most of the respondents are Milleneals 42 (52.5%), 45 (56.3%) female physical therapy practitioners and 53 (66.3%) have <2 years of telerehabilitation experience. For level of acceptance, results showed that a majority of the respondents had moderate level with 35.0%, followed by low level with 31.3% and high level with 28.7% and lastly very high level with 5.0%. Level of acceptance was compared across demographic factors. In terms of age, 13 (34.2%) of the Generation Z population had low acceptance, 16 (38.1%) of the Millennial population had moderate acceptance on telerehabilitation uptake. For sex category, 17 (48.6%) of male respondents had low acceptance and 17 (37.8%) of female respondents answered moderate acceptance. Lastly, for years of rehabilitation experience, there were identical results for low and moderate acceptance with 18 (34.0%) of the respondents with less than two (2) years of experience and 10 (37.0%) of the population with two (2) to 10 years of rehabilitation experience have equal findings for moderate and high acceptance on telerehabilitation uptake.
The level of acceptance towards telerehabilitation uptake varied across the different demographic factors but majority of the respondents had low level acceptance. In regard to this, the researchers would like to recommend that the respondents need to undergo a seminar regarding telerehabilitation uptake to strengthen their knowledge and perception towards the new technological innovation.
