Abstract
The researchers studied about the Effectiveness of Calamansi (Citrus microcarpa) Peel As Housefly (Musca domestica) Repellent. This study utilized the true experimental research method. The preparation for the experiment was done in the Chemistry laboratory of the College of Arts and Sciences and the experiment was performed at the back of the first canteen of Cebu Doctors' University, Mandaue City. Housefly (Musca domestica) was the research subject.
The materials used were platform balance, knife, Calamansi peel, coconut vinegar, sticky paper, tape, empty one-liter bottles, candles, and observation tally sheet. Three trials were performed using three bottles per trial labeled as "A" for the experimental set-up, where Calamansi peel was placed above the bottle, "B" for the control set-up and "C" for the positive control, which was surrounded with candles.
The researchers recorded the number of houseflies trapped in the bottles in the span of 2 hours, recording it every thirty minutes and also observed the number of houseflies swarming around the bottles in the same amount of time. Since the results show that the set-up with Calamansi peel lessen the number of houseflies trapped in the bottle, we can say that it is effective. The researchers recommend it but not highly, for the positive control yielded a more favorable result.
