Abstract
This study is conducted to determine the effect of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis leaf extract on the percent mortality of Aedes mosquito larvae. The study was experimental in nature and a Completely Randomized Design. Stachytarpheta jamaicensis leaves were collected in Bogo, Cebu. Aedes mosquito larvae were collected at Lapu - Lapu, Cebu. Four (4) days or 4th instars Aedes mosquito larvae. Data Sheet, was the instrument used for the tallying of results. A total of 5 replicates was used as a sample size of this experiment.
After 1 hour, larval mortalities were observed 1% and 5% concentrations of Gervao leaf extracts were not high enough to kill the larvae. And yet 1% and 5% concentrations of Baygon (Positive control) has the greater larvicidal effect in comparison to Gervao leaf extracts. The variances of the treatment groups were not equal in the original percent larval mortality data, F(3,20) = 7.197, p = .002 and square root transformed data, F(3,20) = 19.262, p = .000. Furthermore, the larval mortalities (%) were not formally distributed in the original data, D = .028, p = .008 and the square root transformed data, D = .215, p = .005. Hypothesis was also tested at 0.5 level of significance.
Based on the results of the study, the Gevao leaf extract was not effective. While the positive control group shows being larvicidal. Therefore, our extract is not recommended for the use of household owners.
