Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty with stent placement of subclavian vein stenosis in patient with arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis - Philippine Heart Center experience.

Background. Subclavian venous obstruction can significantly compromise venous outflow, crucial for proper function of vascular hemodialysis access in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). The use of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with stent placement has become a standard for management of central venous stenosis in arteriovenous fistula (AVF) supplanting surgery as the therapy of choice for the treatment of these lesions. Our local experience on this technique is by far limited despite the advancements in the field of endovascular intervention. The purpose of this report is to highlight the significance of invasive strategies on venousdisorders.

Case. This is a first reported case of percutaneous angioplasty with stent placement in a 65 year-old female, with end-stage renal disease presenting with vascular access dysfunction due to subclavian vein stenosis in our institution.

Conclusion. Endovascular interventional technique may be underutilized for now and the need for further experience on this technique will be of benefit in improving our approach to manage patients with venous disorders.
