Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the accuracy of stress echocardiography using either pharmacologic or exercise stimuli to detect the presence of coronary artery disease. We reviewed the files of 88 patients who underwent stress echocardiography and coronary angiography. DSE was 89 percent sensitive, 38 percent specific and 93 percent accurate in identifying patients with CAD irrespective of the baseline wall motion. The ESE, on the other hand, was 72 percent sensitive, 77 percent specific and 84% accurate in detecting CAD. They were both higher than Dobutamine and exercise stress ECG. In conclusion, stress echocardiography is a highly accurate tool for evaluation and identifying patients with CAD.
