Abstract

This is a descriptive study which aims to identify the medicinal plants present in Subangdaku Barangay, Mandaue City.


With the help of a community quark Doctor and the Barangay health workers , the researchers surveyed the study area during their first visit taking notes of the common names of the plants and their respective medicinal uses. Successive visits were then made for collection and identification of the medicinal plants in the study area.


A total of 22 different plants species were collected and preserved for herbarium purposes. After having been identified using the books, "Guide to Philippine Flora and Fauna, Volume III " by de Guzman, Umadi and Sotalbo (1986) , "Guide to Philippine Flora and Fauna, Volume IV " by Santo, Guzman and Fernando (1986). The plants were then Taxonomically classified and indicated their medicinal uses. Most of the identified plants used to alleviate asthmatic condition, rheumatism, bronchitis, kidney problems, liver diseases mumps and ulcers jaundice, smothering effect to the digestive tract.
