Taxonomy of spiders in Salina's Drive, Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines.

This study aimed to determine the taxonomy of Spiders in Salina's Drive, Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines.

In this study the researchers captured 32 spiders from the study sites which were immersed in ethyl alcohol and then transferred to vials. Identification of the taxonomy was done based on the following characters eyes, legs, and the pattern of the abdomen. Verification of the taxonomy of spiders was done by Fidel E. Bendanillo, Curator, Entomological Collection/ Biological Museum, University of San Carlos.

The study concluded that most of the spiders collected belong to Araneidae and Theraphosidae families with three genera consisting of Neoscona, Selenocosmia and Gasteracantha. Out of which Neoscona species were common.

Researchers would like to recommend that aside from external features, taxonomical identification of spiders can also be done by observing internal features. As our research is confined only to Lahug, Cebu City, we encourage
future researchers to find new species in other areas.
