Abstract

This is the first reported successful percutaneous transmitral commisurrotomy (PTMC) done in a pregnanct woman in the Philippines. The patient is a 41-year old, pregnant, GIP0 , in here 32ndweek of gestation. Mitral valve increased from 0.8cm2 to 2.05cm2 and the mitral valve gradient decreased from 21 mmHg to 10 mmHg. Radiation exposure to the fetus was lessened by shortening the duration of the procedure, mother's use of an abdominal lead gown, and performance of the procedure during the third trimester. Percutaneous transmitral commissurotomy (PTMC) can be safely done during pregnancy.
