A comparative study on the effect of Centella asiatica crude extract and silver sulfadiazine on the rate of wound healing of decubitus ulcer of patients at Southern Philippines Medical Center.

Abstract

A prospective randomized double-blind controlled trial on the effect of Centella asiatica cream and silver sulfadiazine on acute superficial wounds of patients at Southern Philippines Medical Center. This study aimed to compare the effect of NSS + Silver sulfadiazine (control) and NSS + Centella asiatica cream (Experimental) on acute superficial wounds at SPMC after one week treatment period. Experimental and Control Groups had 10 subjects each- 20 all in all. Pre- and post-tests bacterial colony count and wound are were sought. Furthermore, mean percentage bacterial colony count reduction and mean percentage wound are reduction were computed. With a p-value of 0.16, there was no significant difference of mean bacterial colony count reduction between NSS + Silver sulfadiazine (Positive Control) and NSS + Centella asiatica Cream (Experimental).In Addition, with a p-value of 0.49, there was no significant difference of mean wound area reduction between the two treatment modality to acute superficial wound which is NSS+ Silver sulfadiazine considering anti-bacterial property and rate of wound are reduction.
